This study was conducted to investigate on the rate of dementia in elders. The tools used in the study were the MMSEK(MiniMental State ExaminationKorea) for dementia screening test and a.questionarie on individuality.
Data were collected from 100 elders. The ages of the subjects were 60 years and over. The data were collected from October 25th to November 6th, 1997. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean,ttest,Ftest using SAS program.
The results were as follows :
1. There were 68, 24 and 8 people as normal( z 24 point), questionable dementia(20 23 point) and dementia group(S 19 point), respectively in the result of the study for classifying dementia using MMSI´K point.
2. It had been investigated that there were no characteristics which showed significant difference between general characteristics of the subjects and MMSEK point.
3. In the field of language and comprehention & judgement, woman showed highe` points than man and they were stastically significant.
-The old people showed lower points in the field of time & place orientation, memory registration and language and they were stastically significant.
-People who had no spouse and lived alone showed lower points in the field of comprehension & judgement and memory recall. They were also stastically significant.
-People who lived in apartment showed higher points in the field of memory registration,language and comprehention & judgement and they were stastically significant.
Currently, concerns on the dementia increase with growing the population of the old people. Therefore, the nursing study for the patients of dementia should be continued.
